Wrap Up 2013

Since the Winter Season ended, off-the field action behind the scenes has continued unabated.

During this  planning period, all indicators were generally positive and point to an exciting 2014.  This could well be the best year ever since CHC was established in 1993.

It is fitting that 2014  is also CHC’s 21st Anniversary Year – more cause for celebration!

Activities throughout 2014 will mark this milestone  culminating in the CHC Awards Evening on Friday 10 October 2014  (watch this space)

A taste of things to come…

SAHA Club & Youth Development Workshop, Gauteng Nov 2013:

Presented many exciting new possibilities.  Arguably the most important development since 1993 -- a potential game changer for 2014 and beyond.

International Tests/Training Matches – Cape Town Jan-Feb 2014:

It is almost certain that at least one of these will take place at Vygieskraal – dates/times to be confirmed

Calypso Hockey 5s – Indoor Rules Outdoor on Astro:

This format is FIH-approved and taking off world-wide, given the shortage of suitable Indoor venues.   This is to hockey what T-20 is to cricket.  The potential is great.  CHC will be launching a pilot at Vygieskraal January-February 2014.  If all goes according to plan, it will add a new dimension to Off Season activities.

Pre Season Training/In Season Training  2014:

This may well be the year that all squads (Youth and Seniors) follow a set curriculum based on the SAHA/Dutch model.  This was one of the  important outcomes of the SAHA Club & Youth Development Workshop held in Gauteng November 2013.  This was set as  a National priority.

Teachers for Africa – a Dutch-based volunteer organisation

This is the same group that brought Manouk Vernij (HDM Hockey Club) to Cape Town in 2013.  They have identified “hockey” as a priority code for 2014 which will see  more hockey volunteers coming to Cape Town.  Vygieskraal Hockey Complex will be  HQ with CHC and WCSS playing a key role. This will provide a tremendous boost for CHC’s Youth Outreach Program.

KCM Easter Hockey Festival, Gauteng:

The trip up North is always costly.  Hence, the need to start budgeting now!

Holland Hockey Tour for Girls u/17 (28 Sep-10 Oct 2014)

An idea that started as a discussion among parents is now on the official CHC Calendar.  Progress has been good and steady.

Registrations (Youth and Senior) 2014:

All enquiries welcome!  A new Season Fee Structure will be published early-January 2014.

And that closes the curtain on yet another eventful year in the life of CHC.  See you in 2014!
