A hugely successful Bi-Annual Youth Hockey Festival held at Vygieskraal

Central Hockey Club in collaboration several key partners hosted another successful Festival at Vygieskraal Hockey Complex.

The event was a fitting end to an action-packed program of activities that encourages year-round physical activity and lifeskills under the banner “Education Through Sport”.

Central  played host to about 400 participants drawn from all corners of the Peninsula (Athlone, Delft, Khayalitsha, Langa, Wynberg) and even as far afield as Gansbaai.   CoCT Commcentres were well represented ((Silvertown, Bridgetown, Duinefontein, Druiwevlei, Vygieskraal).

Three categories of primary school learners were catered for viz.  Mini Hockey Olympic Games (SIX-A-SIDE, Under 11);  Challenge Games (EIGHT-A-SIDE, Under 13)  and Fun Activities (children under 7 years). Activities were supported by a team of 60 coaches/umpires/managers/CHC officials.  Family and friends turned out in numbers to lend support.

All of this could not have happened without the generous support provided by various key social partners. In this regard, a special thanks must go to:  City of Cape Town; District 4 Sports and Recreation Council; Western Province Hockey Union; South African Hockey Association; Sport in a Box, United Nations Association of South Africa; Community Interaction, Stellenbosch University.  Further contributions added much appreciated value to the occasion (e.g.  Parmalat, Peninsula Beverages, Prime Sports, Enhanced Sports).

This project brings to a close a range of highly productive activities undertaken during the 2013 Youth Hockey Season (April to September 2013).  Pre Season preparation commences in January 2014 and a Pre Season Youth Hockey Festival is scheduled for March 2014 (date/time TBD)
